Mono Touch Development

 

Typically, iPhone applications are developed using Objective-C on XCode IDE. For dot net developers, learning a new programming language is a cumbersome task. Mono Touch eliminates the need for a learning curve by providing a means through which experienced Dot net developers can develop mobile apps for iPhone and Android phones. The Mono Project is an open source implementation of Microsoft .NET Platform. Mono framework allows us to run .NET applications on almost any platform, including Apple OS, BSD, Linux, Unix, and others. MonoTouch, which is an extension of the Mono Project, lets us develop mobile applications using C# in .NET framework.

The user interface of MonoTouch is built using Apple's Interface Builder (IB) application that ships with the iPhone SDK. Interface Builder uses Cocoa Touch objects that are native to iPhone. This means that, with Mono Touch as the development framework, all the standard iPhone controls such as "Pickers", "Sliders", "Buttons", etc are available to us. Therefore, there is no real serious disadvantage to developing mobile apps using Mono Touch.
